Every year with the change from winter to spring my sinuses rebel by inflaming and getting stuffy and my eyes get itchy and puffy. I wouldn't say I have allergies severe enough to need medication but I have found some natural remedies that help.
Sweet:
Enjoying local honey is supposed to help with allergies. The idea is that honey contains pollen spores , the same ones that cause create allergic reactions when flowers and grasses are in bloom. Ingesting the honey makes us accustomed to the pollen and less likely to have a reaction to it .
Here is some local honey from Lisbon, CT I got at the health food store:
Salty:
A new treatment gaining popularity is "halotherapy", using Himalayan salt to treat allergy symptoms. In "salt rooms" patients relax in rooms with salt floors, salt ceilings, and salt walls. I recently visited The Salt Room on my trip to Orlando. Here is The Salt Room's description of how its halotherapy works:
"Salt therapy at The Salt Room provides allergy relief by widening the airways of the respiratory tract. The micro particles of salt reach into every area of the sinuses and respiratory system destroying bacteria. This helps to reduce the inflammation of the respiratory tract and sinuses. It clears the blockages in the bronchi and bronchioles as well as the sinus cavities."
Salt rooms are also supposed to help with other inflammatory conditions such as acne.
Connecticut just opened their first salt room ,Elements, so I will have to check it out.
Other options:
A neti pot uses a saline rinse to clear sinuses .
A salt lamp is an attractive way to help purify the air .
Here is mine:
I'm ready to enjoy spring and smell the roses !
