Workout Wednesday:HYPE fitness

Maria and I did HYPE fitness yesterday at Club 24. It is a circuit training class where you do a rotation of different exercises, some weight training and some cardio.

The focus of the class was on abs. Mountain climbers, bicycle crunches, regular crunches, planks, side planks , and superman poses left us gripping our burning stomachs and praying for it to stop. It was definitely different than our usual Zumba classes but it was the challenge we needed. Though we groaned  and complained throughout the whole class, we felt great about completing it. We plan on going back again next Tuesday.

Red Light Therapy

I have come across ads for NASA-discovered red light therapy for treating both muscle problems and skin problems, so I was surprised to see a red light therapy bed when joining my  gym. Red light therapy beds are popping up in many tanning salons and spas as a “reverse-aging” treatment. How exactly do they work? Red light therapy uses infared light which has a stronger wavelength than other types of light and is able to penetrate the skin deeper. It does not , however, expose the skin to any skin-damaging UV light.

It has become an anti-aging treatment because it increases collagen production.  But how can it also help treat pain? Red light stimulates the production of Adenosine triphosphate (ATP) .  ATP helps to increase blood circulation, which reduces swelling and inflammation.

The treatment is being tested for all different types of issues , even cancer.

Recommended treatment is 3-4 days per week, for 4-6 weeks then continuing with 1-2 days per week. So far I am on week 3 of my treatment. It is relaxing and feels like sitting in the sun without the guilt. I can’t say that I see a difference in aches and pains yet but I have noticed that my skin has definetly gotten clearer.  Stay tuned for more updates as  I continue the treatments!

Workout Wednesday: Sweating Out the Emotions

Sometimes, working out makes you stronger in more ways than one. A lot of changes are happening in my life at the moment and working out has remained the constant. Lately, it is not just my fat sweating out of my pores but also my sadness of letting old things go,  nervousness of starting new things , and  aniexty that all the big life decisions I am making are correct. 60 minutes of each day are for me and only me. 60 minutes of endorphin-boosting exercise. Each visit to the gym I grow both stronger and  more confident in myself .
